This is an illustrative story. The people and shops in it are composites written to show how ShopZo works. They are not real customers, and nothing here is a testimonial.
Ramesh-ji (an illustrative name) has run a general store on a busy lane for twenty years. He knows which family buys the 10 kg atta, who wants their milk before seven, and which customer always asks for the same brand of tea. What he cannot do is answer the phone, pack an order and serve the counter at the same time.
Setting up the shop
His son installs ShopZo Vendor from Google Play and signs in with the shop's mobile number. The app asks for the basics: shop name, category, address, a pin on the map, opening hours and a photo of the shop front. Then come the documents for verification: Aadhaar, PAN, the shop licence and a cancelled cheque. The ShopZo team checks them and verifies the store.
Next, products. Ramesh-ji adds the things his customers ask for most: atta, rice, dal, oil, tea, biscuits, soap. He sets every price himself. Each new product is reviewed once, then it is live.
The first order
At 6:40 in the evening the phone chimes. A family two lanes away has ordered atta, toor dal and a bottle of mustard oil. Because ShopZo keeps every order to one store, the whole order is his. There is no "half from you, half from someone else".
- He taps Accept.
- He packs the three items and taps Packed, then Ready.
- A ShopZo Pilot arrives at the counter. Ramesh-ji hands over the bag and taps Handed over.
He goes back to serving the counter. The Pilot takes it from there, and the customer pays on delivery.
What changes, and what doesn't
His prices do not change. His regulars still walk in. What changes is that the families who used to call, or who stopped coming because they were busy, can now order from the same shop on their phone.
At the end of the week he opens Earnings and sees each delivered order. Payouts are settled to the shop's bank account. If something looks wrong, he uses Chat support or Request a call in the app.
The shop is the same shop. It just has a second door now, on every phone in the neighbourhood.
